    Sorry for writing in English but my German is Nicht Gut. I've been following this forum for the last year as I slowly build up my Abarth 595 into an occasional track tool (while staying within TüV certification).
    This summer, I've had some issues with both intake and oil temperatures at Schlüsselfeld and Bilsterberg track days. Mild heat soak would set in after several stints: the air intake temperature would continue to rise (stock filter box) while the engine started burning oil.


    Does anyone have any experience with Orra Racing's oil cooler or low mounted intake? Is the quality okay and do they work reliably? Has anyone else involved with track driving found other solutions or manufacturers to help with heat management?


    For reference, my engine power is stock, but I have tried to keep heat soak to a minimum with hood vents, turbo blanket, downpipe blanket, and Gtech intercooler.

  • I had a similar intake in my MiTo (the one from "mondotuing", now "mt elaborazioni", for the abarth 500 for example https://www.mtelaborazioni.it/…telaborazioni-500-abarth/) but when attaching the hose from the crankase breather I had problems with oil (from blow-by gases) leaking out of the filter, since this has been the lowest point in the setup.
    In addition, how do you want to pass TÜV with a direct induction kit? I had to replace it with the genuine airbox when going to TÜV.

  • Thanks for the info! I didn't think about the crankcase oil collecting into the filter. An oil catch can would take care of that but I don't want to get too far outside of the TüV certification.


    Regarding TüV, I was going to do what you did: swap the original airbox in before inspection. I've seen some cars that keep the stock airbox/engine cover in place even with the direct intake connected. It gives you the appearance of a stock motor (I'm often at the Nordschleife and it's just a matter of time before the police want a closer look).

    I don't know if all this effort is worth lowering the intake temp a few degrees. Maybe I just focus on keeping the oil temp and pressure consistent

    I once ordered the Upper and later the lower intake für my tracktool Abarth. Quality is okay and they fitted without trouble. But temperature wasn't muh different than with stock airbox, stock intake of the Biposto or a replica of it.


    The only advantage is, if the car isn't moving, IAT won't increase that much then. Most important is in my opinion a good intercooler!

  • That updated Scara73 intake is a good solution because it's protected from water on 5 sides. More choices are not making this decision any easier!

    I'm going to purchase the Orra oil cooler for now to keep the engine happy. First track day for the 595 will be at Bilsterberg in May.
